2023 Annual Meeting - Board of Directors Election

The Annual Meeting will be held on February 22, at 7:30 PM, at the Greenbriar East Elementary School, in the Cafeteria. This year we have three board seats that are expiring and up for election.  All terms will expire in February 2026.  The directors who filled these seats are all running for re-election, and we have two other candidates who have registered to have their names put on the ballot.

In alphabetical order here is a list of the candidates and some brief biographical details based on their current service or information they provided to us.

  • Amy Portofe has been a member of the pool club since 2009, and currently serves on the Board as a director-at-large, with a focus on the swim and dive programs.  Her children have been involved with the swim and dive programs since 2013.

  • Chance Putzke currently serves on the Board as a director-at-large with a focus on pool operations and maintenance.  He played a significant role in our recent upgrades (new play set, new basketball and pickleball courts, and the installation of security cameras).

  • Bethany Quick currently serves on the Board as our Secretary, and also manages our special events, where she coordinates the use of the pool or parking lot by the community, arranges our rafternoons, adult and kid late nights, our movie nights, and ensures that the facility is available for member parties.

  • Tarang Rawat is running for a Board position. She is an IT professional with experience in human resource and project management.  She and her family have lived in Greenbriar for eleven years.  She will bring strong people skills to the board if elected.

  • Danielle Waterfield is running for a Board position.  She has been a club member for over 20 years, and her family has long been involved in pool activities – her son Mason is on the dive team and has worked as a lifeguard for the pool.  She is an attorney and will bring her 25+ years of experience in government relations to help focus on our relationship with the county in regards to the limits they place on the use of our property.

At our Annual Meeting on Wednesday, February 22, when you check in, you will receive one ballot for your membership.  The ballot will have all five candidates listed, as well as three spaces for you to write-in additional candidates.  Each membership should vote for no more than three candidates.  Any ballot with more than three votes will be discarded, so don’t hesitate to request a new ballot if needed.

The Board will collect and count the ballots at the end of the meeting.  Candidates should stay and observe the counting, and other members are welcome as well.  Once the counting is complete, the new board will go into executive session and self-select the four officers for the 2023 season.  The results will be sent to all members via email and posted on the web site no later than Saturday, the 25th of February.

January 2023 Pool Club Update

We want to start by wishing you a Happy New Year!  While the pool is closed for the winter, the Pool Club still is busy - we have our annual meeting next month, we have board positions to fill by election at the meeting, and are actively preparing for the 2023 Pool season. The Club also needs to review and collect (starting in early March) the annual maintenance fee for 2023.  There are details on all these topics, so read on!

Regards,
The Greenbriar Pool Board of Directors

2023 Maintenance Fee $25 Increase

As described in the February 2022 Newsletter and in subsequent communications to the membership throughout the 2022 season, the Board made over $50,000 in meaningful capital improvements to the facility in 2022 (to include re-paving the side parking lot and adding sport courts, and installing a new playground) but opted not to raise Maintenance Fees for the 2022 Pool season. However, we did forecast to members that we would likely increase the Maintenance Fee for 2023 to cover these expenses plus any increased operational expenses associated with our service contract with NV Pools. Additional details will be included in the February 2023 Newsletter to be circulated in early February, however, the Board has voted to increase the 2023 Maintenance Fee by $25 to $275, which will raise an additional $15,000 in cashflow to offset last year's investments and also help offset the increased NV Pools maintenance fees (which increased more than usual from 2022 to 2023, nearly 12%, to adjust for inflation and increased labor and material costs). We are notifying the membership of this adjustment early so that this increase does not come as a surprise to anyone.

Open Seats for the Board of Directors

The Club is looking for people to serve on the board, as three of our seats expire every year. So if you have interest, please send our admin (pool@greenbriar.org) a message no later than January 29, indicating that you’d like to run for the Board. Include your name, your contact information, and a paragraph indicating what experience and goals you’ll bring to the board. We will publish the information in our February newsletter so that members can think about who they’d like to see join the leadership team. Write-in votes at the annual meeting are permitted, but we strongly suggest you get your candidacy included in the newsletter.

Bylaws Changes for 2023

We have not received any proposals for bylaws changes in 2023, and we will not accept them after January 27. If you have a proposal, please send it to pool@greenbriar.org and president@greenbriar.org.

2023 Annual Membership Meeting

Our 2023 Annual Membership Meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 22 at Greenbriar East Elementary School.  We will give out other details in the Newsletter that will be e-mailed to all members by early February.
