Greenbriar Pool Club - In The Know-Week of 7.7.24

July 07, 2024 by Admin

Welcome to week seven of the 2024 pool season.

The Fourth of July Celebration at the pool was well attended. The photo booth, coin dive, foam bounce house, lifeguard watermelon eating competition, adult dive competition, "guess how many" containers, and the hidden items around the pool were all popular activities. The foam bounce house may have been a little too popular, so we may opt for a standard bounce house next time. Special thanks to Board member Bethany Quick for organizing all the activities and securing the numerous prizes. Big thanks to pool member Baard Grindal for DJing the entire event.

Lately, there have been multiple instances where individuals linger in our parking lot and solicit random members to escort them to the pool as guests. Please note that it is the member's responsibility to accompany their guests at all times and ensure that their guests are aware of and adhere to the pool rules. Bottom line, it’s YOUR membership that gets penalized if your guest(s) misbehave, so please do not bring anyone you do not know into the pool as a guest. Should you be approached by someone unknown requesting to be your guest, promptly inform the NVPools staff so that they can be escorted off the property.

Now for the week ahead. We have a home dive meet against Oakton on Thursday, July 11th, a Swim Pep Rally on Friday, July 12th, and a home swim meet against King's Ridge on Saturday, July 13th.

Sunday the 14th will be a great day to spend at the pool with a Rafternoon starting at 3 pm, followed by a Dolphin Diner to support the Dive Team from 5 pm - 7 pm.  This week, the snack bar is planning on selling a variety of ice cream floats during Rafternoon.  Similar to the ice cream sundaes, members can purchase an ice cream float ticket at the snack bar with cash or card, then redeem the ticket for an ice cream float flavor combination of their choosing between 3 and 5.

Stay cool and enjoy our pool!

Greenbriar Pool Club - In The Know-Week of 6.16.24

June 17, 2024 by Admin

The last day of school sundae bar was a great success enjoyed by both kids and parents. The snack bar sold ninety-five sundaes! Both the snack bar and special activities have lots of fun events planned for the summer. This year the snack will be offering some rafternoon specials and special activities has a fun Fourth of July celebration planned. Be sure to check the pool calendar for upcoming events at Upcoming Events — Greenbriar Pool Club .

Now to cover some administrative items. We have had some difficulty with guests being brought into the Pickleball courts and then coming into the pool. For now, the gate between the pool and the Pickleball courts will remain closed while we reevaluate how the courts will be managed. We are looking at limiting the number of guests a member can bring into the Pickleball courts along with adding hours of operation. We are glad people are enjoying the courts, but we also want to be respectful of our neighbors that live near our pool.

Please take a moment to review the following pool rule:

“Children seven (7) years of age or under who are not certified as swim safe may use the main pool only if accompanied in the water by an adult. The adult must be actively supervising the child(ren) and be close enough to assist the child (within arm's reach).”

The rule is in place because statistics show that a small child can begin drowning in as little as twenty seconds and drowning is the leading cause of death in children ages 1-4 years according to the CDC. This rule follows CDC recommendations and echo the rules of other public and private pools in our area.

Recently we have had several members who have not only repeatedly refused to follow this rule, but have also argued with our guard staff. Please remember that the guard staff does not make the rules. The pool board is responsible for the rules and policies of the pool and the guard staff enforces those rules at the pool board’s direction. If you have a question or concern regarding a rule or policy of the pool, please reach out to the pool board at board@greenbriar.org.

Now for the week ahead. Morning swim and dive practices begin this week. Both teams start practice prior to the pool opening. Swim practice ends before the pool opens and dive practice ends at 1 pm. There is no evening dive practice this season. On the evening of Monday the 17th, the pool will close at  4 pm as swim has a home meet against the Poplar Tree Pirates. Our next board meeting will take place at Chantilly Regional Library on Tuesday, June 18th at 7:30 PM.  Anyone who wishes to address the board on any topic should send an email message to board@greenbriar.org asking to be added to the agenda and a sentence describing the topic. Anyone is welcome to observe board meetings, but if you want to address the board, you must give prior notice.

Have a great week and enjoy our pool!
