Greenbriar Pool Club - In The Know-Week of 8-4-24

August 07, 2024 by Admin

Lifeguard Appreciation Week was a great success. Thank you to all our members who let our NVPools staff know how much they are appreciated. Your recognition means a great deal to the NVPools staff and the Board.

Special Activities had scheduled a Pickleball Tournament for Saturday, August 10th. However, due to lower-than-anticipated sign-ups, we have decided to reschedule the tournament to a later date. More details and sign-up options will follow.

Upcoming Events for the Remainder of the 2024 Pool Season

  • Adult Late Night - Saturday, August 17th is Adult Late Night at the pool beginning at 8 pm. This event is for 21+ members only. The Adult Late Night is BYOB and guests are permitted.

  • Rafternoon - Sunday, August 18th will be a great day to spend at the pool with a Rafternoon starting at 3 pm.

  • Board Meeting - Wednesday, August 21st at 7:30 PM at the Cale Community Center (4615 String fellow Rd. Chantilly, VA 20151)  Anyone who wishes to address the board on any topic should send an email message to board@greenbriar.org asking to be added to the agenda and a sentence describing the topic. All are welcome to observe board meetings; however, if you wish to address the board, you must give prior notice.

  • Teen Late Night-Saturday, August 24th. A fun night for teens at the pool.

  • Rafternoon - Sunday, September 1st will be the final Rafternoon of the season starting at 3 pm.

Be safe and enjoy our pool!

Greenbriar Pool Club - In The Know-Week of 7.21.24

July 21, 2024 by Admin

Only six weeks remain in the 2024 pool season. We've already welcomed over 13,000 visits to our pool this year!

The Board wants to take a moment to recognize our incredible NVPools staff for their hard work in keeping our pool clean and running smoothly. The week of July 28th, we'll be celebrating Guard Appreciation Week. It's the perfect opportunity to express our gratitude to our guard team for their dedication and diligence. If you have a chance, please take a moment to let them know how much we value their efforts. And if you're feeling generous, a small treat would surely make their week even brighter.

Now to cover some administrative items. At the July board meeting, the board approved a couple of rule changes (don’t panic, they’re minor).  We corrected a discrepancy in the children's section to make it clear that kids under 13 need to be swim-safe to use the dive well unless they’re getting a private lesson.  We also set a minimum age of fifteen (15) to accompany guests, so we don’t have a bunch of younger kids without supervision.   Please note that non-swim-safe guests under 13, or any guest under 10, must be accompanied by an adult (18+) member, depending on how things go, we may lower or raise the “escort” age in the future.    The Board also approved this year’s dog swim day, currently planned for the Saturday after we close.  The Board will be commissioning a formal “reserve study” of the facility to look at the projected repairs/refreshments for the pool, the clubhouse, and the real estate in the future.  This will help us set the maintenance fee properly in future years.   The Board also approved moving a portion of our current reserve account to an investment strategy of laddered CDs so that we can increase the return on our reserve funds while still keeping enough cash to meet immediate needs.   As you can see, the Board is involved in being good long-term stewards of the club as well as overseeing immediate operational needs.

Now for the week ahead. Saturday, July 27th is Adult Late Night at the pool beginning at 8 pm. This event is for 21+ members only. The Adult Late Night is BYOB and guests are permitted.  Sunday the 28th will be a great day to spend at the pool with a Rafternoon starting at 3 pm. This week, the snack bar will be offering another Rafternoon special.

Watch social media this week for additional details about Adult Late Night and the snack bar Rafternoon special.

Greenbriar Pool Club - In The Know-Week of 7.7.24

July 07, 2024 by Admin

Welcome to week seven of the 2024 pool season.

The Fourth of July Celebration at the pool was well attended. The photo booth, coin dive, foam bounce house, lifeguard watermelon eating competition, adult dive competition, "guess how many" containers, and the hidden items around the pool were all popular activities. The foam bounce house may have been a little too popular, so we may opt for a standard bounce house next time. Special thanks to Board member Bethany Quick for organizing all the activities and securing the numerous prizes. Big thanks to pool member Baard Grindal for DJing the entire event.

Lately, there have been multiple instances where individuals linger in our parking lot and solicit random members to escort them to the pool as guests. Please note that it is the member's responsibility to accompany their guests at all times and ensure that their guests are aware of and adhere to the pool rules. Bottom line, it’s YOUR membership that gets penalized if your guest(s) misbehave, so please do not bring anyone you do not know into the pool as a guest. Should you be approached by someone unknown requesting to be your guest, promptly inform the NVPools staff so that they can be escorted off the property.

Now for the week ahead. We have a home dive meet against Oakton on Thursday, July 11th, a Swim Pep Rally on Friday, July 12th, and a home swim meet against King's Ridge on Saturday, July 13th.

Sunday the 14th will be a great day to spend at the pool with a Rafternoon starting at 3 pm, followed by a Dolphin Diner to support the Dive Team from 5 pm - 7 pm.  This week, the snack bar is planning on selling a variety of ice cream floats during Rafternoon.  Similar to the ice cream sundaes, members can purchase an ice cream float ticket at the snack bar with cash or card, then redeem the ticket for an ice cream float flavor combination of their choosing between 3 and 5.

Stay cool and enjoy our pool!
