2023 Pool Season Look-Ahead #1

In the coming weeks, you will receive several communications from the Greenbriar Pool Club (Board) with our plans for the 2023 Pool Club season. Several communications have been sent already about the 2023 maintenance fees and board seat elections.

For those of you who did not previously review the February 2023 annual newsletter, we encourage you to revisit that document in advance of the 2023 Pool Club Season. The newsletter contains more detailed information about what to expect this season as well as other information about recent capital expenditures. The newsletter is available here.

Please take note of the following items related to the 2023 Pool fees and operational items:

  • 2023 Maintenance Fee: As a reminder, 2023 Maintenance Fees were due no later than April 15 to avoid a late fee. Make your payment here if you have not already done so. All Members (including rental memberships) must have their account in good standing prior to gaining pool access. No exceptions.

  • Opening Weekend Hours: Operating hours for opening weekend: Saturday – 9AM-10PM / Sunday – 11AM-9PM / Monday – 11AM-8PM.

  • Pool Admittance: To enter the Pool, you MUST have completed your 2022 Membership Audit (more on that below - yes, this is from last year but thank you to the vast majority of members who have done this already), and you must have paid your maintenance fee and any late fees due. You must also have your family members entered with their pictures uploaded in MemberSplash. You will NOT be able to get your picture taken at the pool on opening weekend. After opening weekend, if you want the guard at the front desk to take your picture, you’ll need to wait until there is no line for check-in. Accounts of members who have not completed the audit or have not paid their maintenance fees will be turned away at the front gate. Board members will be in attendance on opening weekend to address any issues in this regard.

  • Opening Weekend - No Guest Reminder: As in prior years, no guests will be permitted on opening weekend (May 27-29).

  • Opening Weekend - Wait Times & Pool Headcount Capacity: For those of you who had to wait in line last year on Memorial Day weekend to enter the pool, we appreciate your patience and encourage you to potentially expect similar wait times depending on weather and attendance this year. A reminder that the Fairfax County Fire Marshal limits our pool to a 248 person headcount max capacity. We strongly encourage members to check the headcount status on the pool website here: Today @ The Pool. Please note that this website sometimes takes 10-30 seconds to render with data depending on website traffic and your individual connection speed. The Board reminds everyone to be courteous and respectful to pool staff and other pool members, especially in the context of having to wait to access the property.

  • Swim / Dive Teams & Capacity Through End of School Year: While Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) are still in session, the pool will be busy in the afternoons for Swim and Dive team practices. Last year early in the season we had instances of the pool being at capacity during swim and dive practice resulting in some swim team participants in the later sessions being unable to access the pool due to the headcount capacity limit, which is unfortunate. We have taken steps to address this issue which should alleviate this problem to some extent, but the pool may continue to reach capacity until school is out and swim practices move to the weekday mornings. There won’t be any afternoon lap swimming on weekdays until June 18th, when FCPS schools aren't in session and our normal swim and dive practices (Swim practice from 7:30-10:30 AM, and Dive practice until 11:30 AM and from 5:15-7 PM) resume. The Swim and Dive meets are already on the pool calendar on our website. Please also note that our dive practice schedule may change depending on the size of the team and the coaching staff - be sure to check the website for more information.

  • Membership Sale and Rentals: Membership rental and sale applications may be submitted through May 13, which will guarantee new owners or renters access to the pool on Opening Weekend (if all fees are paid and all requirements on the part of the new owner/renter are met). This allows for amble application processing time. Rental and sale application submissions will continue being processed after May 13th, but there is no guarantee that you will be granted access on opening weekend.

  • Guest Pass Availability: A reminder that, in addition to the 5 free guest passes that come with your membership, guest passes are available for purchase through Member Splash all summer long. Remember that the guards do not handle payments any longer, so if you need to add guest passes to your Member Splash account, you should do that BEFORE you come to the pool. You can use your smartphone to buy additional guest passes as well. Please note: Guest passes are only good for the year they are purchased. Unused guest passes DO NOT rollover to the next season, so please make sure to keep that in mind when purchasing additional guest passes.

  • Snack Bar 2023: As previously noted, we are excited that the snack bar will be open again for the Summer 2023 season. A big thank you to our snack bar manager, Tina Campbell, who once again is overseeing the snack bar operation this coming summer. Thank you to those families who had kids interview for snack bar hourly positions. We are pleased to report that all positions are now filled.

  • Seasonal/Caregiver Long Term Guest Pass: As a reminder, members can buy a seasonal/caregiver long term guest pass. This pass will cost $80 for the season and names a specific individual – it’s not reassignable. The seasonal/caregiver long term guest pass allows a family to add a temporary member to their account for one pool season. Examples include a nanny or babysitter, grandparents or other family members who will be accompanying your children to the pool, grandchildren who move in with you for the summer, etc. Memberships are limited to a maximum of two (2) long term guests per season. Members will see the option to add one (1) long term guest on the payment page in Member Splash. To add a second long term guest, please email the pool admin at pool@greenbriar.org or call 703-378-4421.

  • Recent Facility Improvements: We encourage our members to enjoy the sport courts in the side parking lot and big kid playground (installed prior to the 2022 season), which was recently re-stained and new sand added to the play area where the playground and volleyball courts are. The Operations & Maintenance (O&M) board members also intend to add additional rubber mulch to the little kid playground prior to opening weekend. Bring your own pickleball paddles and enjoy a game with friends and family.

  • Special Activities / Extracurricular Events Update: We had a successful 2022 season with a number of events orchestrated by our Special Activities-focused Board member, Bethany Quick. We will be releasing an update to the pool calendar in the coming weeks with Special Activities and other after hour events scheduled for the 2023 season.

  • Periodic Membership Audit (Carryover from 2022): While nearly all of our members completed the Membership Audit in 2022, there are still a small number of members that have not. As a reminder, you MUST complete the audit in order to use the pool this year. Details about the audit can be found HERE.

Should you have any questions about this e-mail, please contact pool@greenbriar.org.

Warm Regards,

The Greenbriar Pool Club Board of Directors
